Norsk Slektshistorisk Forening (NSF - The Norwegian Genealogical Society) is Norway's oldest national association for genealogists. It was founded in 1926 and has now approximately 2000 members in both Norway and abroad.

The main purpose of the society is - and has always been - to publish articles and other litterature with the goal to increase the knowledge of family history and genealogy in Norway. This activity has, during the years, led to the publication of more than 14000 - fourteen thousand - pages of genealogical material in the society's own periodical - Norsk Slektshistorisk Tidsskrift. In these publications you will find the best part of the most renowned articles on Norwegian genealogy.

The members of the society each year receive two issues of Norsk Slektshistorisk Tidsskrift, as well as two issues of the «member's magazine» - Genealogen.

In addition to the publishing activities, the Norwegian Genealogical Society also runs a library in Oslo. Here you can, during the opening hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays 11.00-20.00, make use of the association's large collections of genealogical (family) books and 'bygdebøker' (farm and family histories/rural chronicles).
